The total count of fatalities resulting from the freight aircraft which caught fire and plummeted has now reached 13, according to latest reports.
City Leader's Remarks
“On my way to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I was informed of a 13th person that lost their life as a outcome of the plane crash,” stated the local official in a public communication. “My heart is with the loved ones, friends and colleagues of all who were lost in this recent tragedy. We will endure this as one.”
Victims Named
A release from the company listed the pilots on board the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.
“Our sympathies go out to every staff member who has been affected and everyone in our community area – assisting you and making sure you get the care and aid you need is our priority,” the organization’s statement expressed.
Investigation Findings
Federal authorities announced that the jet’s wing burst into flames and an engine separated just after takeoff from the airfield, resulting in the aircraft to crash and explode into a blaze.
The National Transportation Safety Board announced it is probing the aircraft’s upkeep logs, that was in Texas for repairs several weeks prior to the incident.
Aircraft data revealed the aircraft was on the runway in the Texas city from the start of last month to mid-October.
“We are cognizant that this aircraft was located in the facility,” remarked an NTSB member on Thursday, not giving a precise time frame. “We will examine every piece of repairs that was performed, from the Texas period, all the way to the date of the journey.”
Recovery of Vital Items
The pilot’s recorder and data recorder were recovered, and the engine was found on the tarmac.
The recorders – referred to as black boxes – were designed to withstand accident forces and intense heat from blazes, and they appeared to be undamaged when located within the crash debris. Officials intend to examining data from the black boxes.
Jet’s concluding data recordings showed an altitude of that level and a velocity of that speed before the crash.
Repair Record
Based on FAA files dated last month, a fracture on a structural piece within the fuel container needed maintenance.
Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it offers aircraft servicing for the carrier’s jet and operates a repair facility in San Antonio, refused to comment, but expressed it would cooperate fully when officials reached out it.
Activities Restart
Meanwhile, the facility services restarted that evening with its Next Day Air or evening operation, official the company official said. The three landing strips at the airport were also back in operation.
The distribution hub in the city is the organization’s largest. The hub hires over a large number of people in the locality, handles numerous aircraft each day and processes more than four hundred thousand parcels each hour.
Local Support
A memorial was organized on the evening of 6 November by the regional labor union, which represents employees at the airfield, the company’s biggest freight center.
Worker representatives, which supports UPS workers, started the memorial with a quiet tribute at 5.14pm, the estimated time of the accident two days earlier.
“This event was so abrupt, so surprising,” the mayor addressed the crowd of attendees. “No one had a opportunity to part to each of those who we have lost.”
